Helping deliver essential wastewater infrastructure at Towcester WRC

We recently completed our site engineering work at Towcester Water Recycling Centre in Northamptonshire. The project was part of a wider scheme delivered by Anglian Water’s @one Alliance to address several key issues at the site, including storage capacity, flow-to-full treatment (FFT), phosphorus levels and growth requirements.

Towcester WRC needed to remain operational throughout the build. To make this possible, temporary treatment systems were installed ahead of the permanent solution. We were brought in to provide full site engineering support during this temporary phase.

Our involvement on site

We began work on the project in June 2023 and stayed involved through to completion. Our site engineer worked directly with Hercules Site Services and the @one Alliance. They were embedded in the delivery team and supported project planning, day-to-day coordination, setting out and quality checks.

We were responsible for the setting out and installation support for the temporary works, which included:

  • Constructing the civil base for four SAF units and a temporary collection tank
  • Installing the SAF units
  • Installing the temporary collection tank
  • Modifying the flooring on the existing PSTs outlet chamber and installing duty/duty submersible pumps to transfer flow to two SAF lanes
  • Installing temporary SAF effluent return pumps in the collection tank to return flow to the PSTs outlet chamber during the seeding period
  • Installing temporary ducts to the SAF units
  • Installing a section of below-ground SAF effluent pipework to maintain access to the construction area
  • Installing overground hose systems for the SAF feed rising main, SAF effluent main, anoxic recycle main and effluent pipework to the filter outlet chamber
  • Installing a generator with fuel storage to power the temporary equipment until power from the existing MCC was available
  • Setting out and building a crane pad to lift the SAF units into place

Throughout the works, the site remained operational. Our responsibilities included maintaining accurate setting out, verifying positions, supporting infrastructure integration and managing site logistics. We also provided regular documentation and worked alongside the team to ensure all work was recorded and tracked.

Testimonial from the delivery team

Currently we are delivering a circa £2.5million scheme on behalf of Anglian Water/@One alliance. E.A.S.E have played a key role in the ongoing successful delivery of this project. They have supported us with a high caliber of engineering resources throughout. Their support has helped us achieve our right first time principals through excellent and timely setting out, implementation of the BIM model and thorough QA checks and documentation.

Project completion

The temporary works are now complete, and the site has moved on to the next stage. We supported the early phases by providing reliable, on-site engineering support throughout the installation and commissioning of the temporary systems.
